Newmarket Town U10A
Witchford U10

Start of a new season and Town began well!
Impressive scoring debuts for Lister and Reynolds and the old hands looked fired up and ready. Skipper Cahill gave an excellent performance, rarely loosing out in a tackle, driving at the visitor’s defence, scoring one and having an audacious long range dipping drive brilliantly saved in the top left corner. Drain, Trent and scorer Andrews worked hard and combined well in some excellent passing moves. Milne played lone striker in the 1st half and held the ball up well, scoring the first and brilliantly laying on the second for Reynolds.

Defensively, Pearson, Minton, Gale and Fry repelled the threat of the lively Witchford forwards but at times found themselves dealing with two, even three on one situations. The support they received from keeper McGlone was excellent with very safe handling and a couple of outstanding saves. The conceded goal was a lack of communication allowing a Witchford boot to poke the ball home. It was Town’s overall passing, movement and pace that was the difference and if they can continue to improve on this, they will be a match for anyone this season.

West Wratting U12
Newmarket Town U12B

With both teams eager to get the season under way West Wratting kicked off, and some good football by both teams saw the game go from end to end but neither team could convert with both defences standing strong. The end of the first half finished nil nil.

The second half Newmarket started strong and made some good chances but it took 10 minutes before Jon Allen netted for Newmarket. Newmarket then went from strength to strength with the whole team pushing themselves to the limit. This payed off when man of the match Lachie Allan found some space in the box and slotted it home. Newmarket then found another gear and dominated the play, good build up play led to a Jon Allen shot being pushed onto the post which fell into the path of Callum Stevens to nod home. With the game nearly over one more Newmarket drive saw the ball break loose to Jon Allen who from 25 yards lifted the ball over the keeper to make it four, nil and a great start for the whole team.
