Newmarket entered this match buoyed by recent success in the U10 Newmarket Town Youth tournament where they ran out winners. In front of a large travelling Newmarket crowd all dressed up in Blue and Yellow colours the game kicked off. Cherry Hinton were quickest into their stride and were it not for some fine goalkeeping from Owen Harnwell could have found themselves behind. Newmarket however tried to play the neat football which has served them well all season and it wasn’t long before the first real Newmarket chance fell to Callum Chambers-Shaw after a well worked free kick, but he was just unable to keep his shot on target.
Quickly after Newmarket burst clear again and the ball was crossed to Samuel Ashby in front of goal, but he too was just unable to stretch and steer the ball into the opponents’ goal. The teams entered the half time interval with the game goalless. Newmarket broke the deadlock in the second half when a massive Max Weaver throw was headed into the goal by Chambers-Shaw. With their confidence increasing Newmarket had further chances, but the scoring was completed by Myles Cowling who raced onto a Weaver through ball and slotted under the advancing keeper.
Deep into the second half there was just enough time for Cherry Hinton to put some pressure on the Newmarket back line, but the excellent goalkeeping of Harnwell kept the Lions at bay. The man of the match award went to Owen Harnwell.
Since this match on Saturday Newmarket U10 red also entered and won the local Isleham Youth tournament for their age group – A truly wonderful effort by the team to win 3 trophies in the space of 1 week .

Newmarket knew the previous meeting of these two teams earlier in the season could not be used to predict todays result when they faced a much improved Witchford side. Newmarket started the brighter of the teams and played some of the best one and two touch football they have ever played to carve open their opponents defence. This early pressure saw Newmarket take the lead after some good work from Callum Chambers-Shaw who provided the opportunity for Myles Cowling to slot home.
After several further chances being saved by the excellent Witchford goalkeeper, Newmarket extended their lead when after going on a great run, Karl Bristley squared the ball into the path of Jack Long for him to drive low and hard into the goal. Thomas Bristley then struck a post and Max Weaver had a volley saved which he tried to guide into the net. The goalscoring was finished off by Cowling who powerfully headed home a deep Max Weaver corner.
The man of the match award went to Jack Long.

Newmarket’s impressive cup run continued as they brushed past Comberton in this semi-final to book themselves a place in the last 2, due to be held 12 May at Cambridge City F.C. Coming up against a larger team on a bigger pitch didn’t phase Newmarket as they soon found their top gear. The home team were served an early warning when a Karl Bristley strike was pushed onto the post by the keeper. Some tenacious chasing down of the defence by Jack Long provided an opportunity for the clinical Myles Cowling to fire Newmarket into an early lead. This was followed by Cowling’s second of the game when a Callum Chambers-Shaw corner was met powerfully by Cowling with his head. Newmarket increased their lead and took a 3 goal advantage to the break after Max Weaver guided the ball over the line with his lower anatomy from a Long corner.
After the break Comberton came out stronger and could have got back into the game were it not for the agility of Owen Harnwell. Comberton eventually got the goal they deserved to bring the score to 3;1 and set up a tense final few minutes for the away side, who continued to create chances, especially a chance for Chambers-Shaw when closing in on goal was denied by a fabulous last ditched tackle. A fantastic game played in the right spirit by both teams, showing just how good the standard of football can be from boys so young. Every player contributed to the win and helped book a place in the U10 league cup final. The man of the match award went to Thomas Bristley.

Newmarket travelled to Cottenham this week for a game that they knew they had to be at their best to get a result. It was the much larger, elder Cottenham side who were making the brighter start when Ben Rix scored for the home team firing home from close range. Newmarket started to come back into the match and went close to equalising through Callum Chambers-Shaw.
The eventual equaliser came from Myles Cowling after some good pressure on the home defence. Cowling and Karl Bristley both went close before Newmarket claimed their second goal from the move of the match, where Bristley, Max Weaver and Cowling linked up well for a rarely seen bullet header at the far post from Cowling. Chambers-Shaw added his name to the scoresheet when scoring directly from a free kick with an expertly placed shot, before Cowling rounded off the scoring to claim his hatrick with a drilled shot through a crowd of players. A great team performance from every player, with the man of the match award going to Callum Chambers-Shaw.

Newmarket’s unbeaten run came to an end this week when, for the first time ever, Newmarket failed to score a goal. On a blustery Dullingham pitch Newmarket knew it was to be a tough test, but they did start the brighter of the two teams. Several early chances fell to Max Weaver and Myles Cowling, but chances were going just wide, striking the post or being saved by the impressive visiting goalkeeper. Newmarket failed to take advantage of the wind in the first half and at the interval the score remained goalless.
After the break it was Cherry Hinton’s turn to use the wind, and the Newmarket keeper Owen Harnwell was called into action on several occasions to keep the visitors at bay. These saves did not come without reply with Max Weaver coming closest to breaking the deadlock with a drive which flew across the face of the goal. Right at the death of the game a long throw from Cherry Hinton fell at the feet of one of their players after a couple of attempted clearances, but it was the striker who made no mistake in taking his chance. The man of the match award went to Owen Harnwell for his numerous fine saves.

Straight from the whistle you could see it was going to be a tough game. Walpole had a numerous chances in the first half, but due to some great defending by Mathew Pearson and Thomas Bristley nothing was getting through. Jack Long and Callum Chamber Shaw did some great foot work in the second half with some great saves being made by the Walpole goal keeper.
Second half substitutions were made from both teams. Max Weaver used his strength to knock some long balls into the danger zone. Jack Long with some fancy foot work knocked the ball through Thomas Bristley who squeezed the ball through to Myles Cowling to slot the ball into the bottom left corner putting the reds though to the semi finals. Man of the match was Thomas Bristley

After the disappearance of the cold weather that caused recent football to be postponed for several weeks, Newmarket were keen to get back into action. Newmarket started the brighter of the two teams and it wasn’t long before Callum Chambers-Shaw had the home team in front after poking the ball under the Waterbeach keeper after some good work from Myles Cowling. Cowling soon went from provider to scorer when creating space for himself with a neat turn, to fire across the goal and into the bottom corner of the net.
Cowling scored his second goal of the game with a tremendous piece of skill which fooled the Waterbeach defender and left the Newmarket attacker with the goal at his mercy. Newmarket’s fourth, fifth and sixth goals all came from the “man of the match” Cowling who it seemed that everything he touched ended with a goal. The scoring of Newmarket’s seventh goal came from Callum Chambers-Shaw who latched onto a Max Weaver through ball. A great team performance with every man playing their part saw Newmarket run out 7-0 winners, picking up where they left off before the recent cold weather.

Early exchanges were in Newmarket’s favour but right from the start it looked as though the breakthrough was never going to happen, that was until Thomas Bristley created space for himself with a neat sidestep to rifle the ball low and hard into the stretham goal. Newmarket continued to apply pressure and Bristley then turned provider to thread a neat ball through to the advancing Myles Cowling who coolly slotted the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.
Stretham soon replied with a great lobbed pass fooling everyone in the Newmarket team before the striker finished off the move with great effect. Myles Cowling and Callum Chambers-Shaw both went close with chances, narrowly heading wide and the goalkeeper saving from point blank range. Newmarket finished the scoring with their third when Chambers-Shaw glanced in a header from a Max Weaver corner. A deserved victory for Newmarket, who never gave up trying to play their neat passing football despite the very heavy pitch. The man of the match award went to Thomas Bristley.

Newmarket returned to action this week with a cup game in Moulton to play Panthers – up for grabs a slot in the quarter finals. With a couple of Newmarket players feeling under the weather, Samuel Ashby was called upon to wear the goalkeeper’s jersey from the start. It was Ashby who was the busier of the two keepers when called on to make an excellent save from a ferocious Moulton shot. It was Newmarket who took the lead after Callum Chambers-Shaw’s shot slipped under the advancing keeper. A huge Max Weaver throw fooled everyone to leave Myles Cowling free at the far post to head home and take the score to 2:0.
Moulton Replied with a goal after some good work from Carter Wilder provided a cross to Harrison Jones to drive into the net. Max Weaver added his name to the scoresheet after thumping home on the half volley from the edge of the Moulton area. Newmarket’s Fourth and final goal came from a Weaver corner finding Cowling unmarked to head home for his second of the match.

Newmarket’s unbeaten league run of 15 months came to an end this week as they travelled to play a strong Milton side. By half time Newmarket were 3-0 behind, to some outstanding long range strikes. After the interval Newmarket came out a different team and soon forced Milton into an error which provided Newmarket with a penalty. Myles Cowling confidently struck the ball towards the top corner of the goal, only for the Milton goalkeeper to pull off a brilliant save and deny Newmarket.
Newmarket got back into the game when Cowling side footed low into the Milton goal to take the score to 3-1. Max Weaver launched one of his trademark throws into the box for Thomas Bristley to bundle the ball over the line to reduce the deficit further. In the final few minutes Newmarket had Milton camped in their own half, but were just unable to snatch the equalising goal. Newmarket’s man of the match this week was Jack Long.

Newmarket travelled to Cherry Hinton this week trying to maintain their unbeaten record. With only one substitute available Newmarket knew they would have to be at their best to get anything from the game. Newmarket soon had the upper hand when great determination from Karl Bristley resulted in a parried shot falling at the right foot of Callum Chambers-Shaw to bundle the ball across the goal line. Thomas Bristley then started a move which ended with his brother Karl just missing the target.
Newmarket then scored their second when a long Max Weaver throw found Chambers-Shaw in the clear for him to toe poke under the advancing keeper. Great defending from Mathew Pearson and Thomas Bristley kept the home side at bay. Samuel Ashby entered the game in goal giving Owen Harnwell a rare opportunity out on the pitch. Newmarket huffed and puffed their way to victory when they visited Histon Hornets this week. The goalscoring got underway when a Max Weaver pass found Myles Cowling who set off on one of his trademark jinking runs to beat 2 players and stroke the ball into the gaping Histon goal. Weaver was again the provider when his cross was met on the half volley by Jack Long, who’s shot went low into the net. Callum Chambers-Shaw got his name on the scoresheet when redirecting a Karl Bristley strike past the Histon goalkeeper. A Histon own goal took the Newmarket tally to four goals before Chambers-Shaw fired in his second of the match after some good work by Karl Bristley.
A Rory Delap style throw from Weaver fooled the Histon defence and left Jack Long in the clear to tuck the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Newmarket continued their winning run with a 9;0 victory over Witchford. Max Weaver added his name to the scoresheet soon after with a well struck shot. Cowling completed his hatrick before half time by chasing down a long ball which split the Witchford defence.

Newmarket Red this week entertained their biggest rivals in an eagerly awaited local derby. From the very first whistle the game ebbed and flowed with good chances being created at both ends of the pitch. Some great football was being played by both teams to a standard usually only seen by teams far more advanced in years than these two. Newmarket White were the first to go close to opening the scoring with Keelin Munns unleashing a ferocious shot which struck the top of the bar. More chances were made at both ends but the busier of the two keepers was Owen Harnwell who produced a couple of fine saves to prevent Newmarket White taking the lead.
However it was to be Newmarket Red who took the lead when Karl Bristley challenged the Newmarket White defence and his shot rifled low into the bottom corner of the goal. Newmarket Red nearly made it two when Callum Chambers-Shaw flicked a near post corner onto the post. With this the defence of Newmarket Red came under intense pressure for the final few minutes but the defensive work of Thomas Bristley, Max Weaver and Mathew Pearson kept Newmarket White at bay.
A fantastic game played in the right spirit in front of a large crowd – well done to both teams. The Newmarket Red man of the match award went to Mathew Pearson.

Newmarket transferred their impressive early season form in the league across into their first attempt at the cup. It was fair to say that Newmarket started this encounter rather tentatively, however normal services resumed when the huge throw of Max Weaver found Myles cowling alone in the box, for him to toe-poke home under the advancing Girton keeper Cowling then turned provider after some neat work which saw him thread the ball through to Callum Chambers-Shaw who steered the ball home with his left foot.
Cowling was again on the scoresheet after a nicking a poachers goal when alone inside the Girton area. Cowling completed his 16 minute hatrick with a coolly taken side footed drive into the bottom corner to claim Newmarket’s fourth goal. Newmarket’s fifth and final goal came before the half time interval when after some neat link up play Jack Long fired a looping shot which sailed over the keeper’s outstretched arms. The second half saw more neat football from Newmarket, without them adding to their goal scoring tally thanks to the brilliant goalkeeping from the Girton glovesman. The man of the match award went to Jack long.

Newmarket’s first league game of the new season saw them run out 4-1 winners against Stretham U10 blue. Early exchanges were in favour of Newmarket and it wasn’t too long before Myles Cowling’s jinking run provided Callum Chambers-Shaw a chance which he narrowly failed to convert. Cowling again produced another individual run which resulted in a parried shot falling to the feet of Max Weaver who slammed the ball into the exposed goal. Good work from Chambers-Shaw earned his team a penalty after being felled in the area, he himself stepped up to take the kick but the Stretham keeper pulled off a save that kept his team in the match.
Chambers-Shaw didn’t have to wait too long for his goal when he guided a near post corner into the net. Stretham bought the score back to 2-1 with a low drive into the corner of the Newmarket goal. Myles cowling then scored a quick-fire double to take the game beyond Stretham, the first cutting in from the right to powerfully drive into the net, and the second chesting down a high ball before poking the ball under the advancing keeper.
