Newmarket white were keen to avenge the 1:0 defeat at the hands of their closest rivals from earlier in the season. With many of the players all going to school together it was all about who would be happiest in the playground on Monday morning and which managers Facebook account would be acclaiming the victory. An unusually mild and calm polo field was hosting the match and both teams were keen to take an early advantage with some end to end attacking football. Myles Cowling was the first playing to test the goalkeeper Alfie Young when pulling off a great save with the advancing Jack Long pushing the rebound just wide. Young was called into action soon after, this time with a splendid double save from Myles Cowling again and Samuel Ashby.
Owen Harnwell was called upon to make a fine save to keep the visitors in the game, but it was to be Young again pulling off a save to deny Max Weaver on this occasion. The resulting corner was narrowly put over the bar from a glancing Myles Cowling. A draw was a fair outcome to an entertaining match played in front of a large vocal crowd where a victory for either team would have been harsh on their opponents. Every single player played their part in an entertaining game to a standard usually associated with much older players.
The man of the match award for Newmarket red went to Max Weaver.
